The clarinetist Marija Pavlovic is one of the most gifted clarinetist in Croatia. Her music career began in her home town of Dubrovnik. She graduated in Zagreb Music Academy, than she perfected her art at the Salzburg Mozarteum in the class of Alois Brandhofer. Additionally, she worked with Walter Boeykens, Ivo Lybeert and Pascal Moraguez. She received further musical advice through masterclasses with esteemed artists such as Radovan Vlatković, Péter Czaba, Hansjörg Schellenberger, Zakhar Bron and Eduard Brunner.
Marija is the recipient of numerous awards that include the annual prize of the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra and American Express prize for the most successful young musician of the year; the Würdigenpreis of the Austrian Ministry for Science and Culture (Vienna); the 1st prize at the AudiMozart competition in Rovereto, Italy; the Poulenc Award at the International IBLA Grand Prize Competition in Ragusa, Italy. In 2011 she was honored with the « Orlando prize » on the Dubrovnik summer festival for her solo performance with ‘Gli Archi Scaligeri’, La Scala’s chamber orchestra.
Her recent CD « music…friendship » with collaborating pianist Martina Filjak received numerous discographic awards, including Croatia’s ‘Porin’ award for the best album of the year.
With the flutist Edith Van Dyck, she established a chamber ensemble « Focus », which performs in various chamber ensembles. The new CD of ensemble « Focus » is released in 2018.
In the last few years she has gained orchestral experience with many orchestras in Croatia, Austria, Belgium, France and the Netherlands (Rotterdams Philharmonisch Orchestra, Flemish Opera House, Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, Brabants Orchestra, Opéra de Rouen Haute Normandie…). She worked with conductors like Valery Gergiev, Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Stanislav Kochanovsky, Ben Gernon, Eliahu Inbal, Alexander Joe, Philippe Herreweghe and many others… After an extra work audition in 2017 she is regulary playing in Flemish Opera House.
A frequent partner in chamber music performances is the bassoonist Pieter Nuytten, and since 2009 she has worked extensively with Croatian pianist Martina Filjak.
She has given a number of solo recitals and chamber music concerts at many festivals both at home and abroad, such as the Dubrovnik Summer Festival, the San Marco Festival in Zagreb, the Zagreb Summer Evenings, Rishon Lezion in Israel, Art Masters in St. Moritz, Musique et Nature en Bauges in France, Classic con brio in Osnabrück, Kasseler Musiktage, Zomer van Antwerpen, Podium Jonge Musici in Antwerpen, Bozarsundays in Brussel, Arbanassi summer music in Bulgaria, Associazione Filarmonica Rovereto in Italy, Seneffe festival in Belgium…
She has made guest appearances in many European countries, as well as in the USA and in Israel. As a soloist, she has worked with distinguished orchestras and chambers ensembles in Croatia and elsewhere like Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra, Croatian Chamber Orchestra, Zagreb soloists, Croatian Radiotelevision Symphony Orchestra, Haydn orchestra di Bolzano e Trento, Montreal Chamber Orchestra, Gli Archi Scaligeri, Rijeka Philharmonic Orchestra, Brussel Chamber Orchestra, Flanders Symphony Orchestra, Montenegrin Symphony Orchestra…
In 2018 she became « Artist in Residence » in the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra and initiated a new festival « Stradun Classic ».
